Mothers and Daughters, What a wonderful combination!

Mothers and daughters have a special bond. If you develop that special bond early on and keep it going to adulthood, then it will never break. As a matter of fact, it only grows stronger as they get older.

Recently, my daughter, who is grown, and I attended a non-profit High Tea. The non-profit organization was Altrusa International Inc., of the Capital City of Richmond, VA. As a matter of fact, I am the President and have been for the past two years. This was Altrusa’s tenth year for the High Tea. The tea helps support our adult literacy, elder care and abused women and children projects.

One of the highlights of the tea is the best decorated tables, which carries 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize winners. There is also a fancy hat parade contest and a fashion show put on by Stein Mart. Each year my daughter joins me in attending and we have a great time together. What makes this so special is that our children are very busy today and it’s difficult to get our schedules to line up, so for my daughter to make time in her busy schedule to attend with me is very special to me.

My daughter is a definite daddy’s girl, but as she has gotten older our time together has become very special to the both of us. We were not the only mother-daughter combination there that day. Camille LaCognata, my Boomer Connections business partner, and her mom were there too. They come because they enjoy the food, the presentations, and the fellowship.

It’s never too late to start your own tradition with your daughter. Think of something you and your daughter like doing together then make every effort to keep that close time together ongoing.

Rita McCulloch is a mid generation Boomer who saw change and turmoil happen all around her from a vantage point as a young African American woman growing up in Huntsville, Alabama. Yet her focus was on family, community, church and helping others. She began helping seniors with their personal and financial needs as a volunteer while raising her family. She then founded a business, Boomer3Solutions, through which she helps educate, organize, and prepare families for their golden age years and minimize the stress that can be related to caregiving. Rita brings to Boomer Connections a strong background in elder care concerns and the many decisions facing their Boomer family members.
