52 Small Pursuits of Happiness in 2019: Week #5 – A New Bagel
Small and simple: our pursuits of happiness don’t have to be any big deal, but they can add a little bit of fun to the day. That’s the idea behind this series. Such was the case at our last team meeting at Panera. We decide to each try a bagel we had never tasted before!
Our adventures often revolve around food, because as you might have noticed, we love food. And happy hour.
Camille decided to try a chocolate chip bagel. Believe it or not, she had never ordered a sweet bagel. She grew up in the NYC area, which I think it is safe to assume, is the bagel capital of the country. In her Italian/Jewish neighborhood, you become a bagel purist. So…a chocolate chip bagel? Is that a thing? Are they kosher? What do you put on it, butter or cream cheese? She tried both and deemed the experiment a success. After all these years, she finally had a new bagel, a pretty significant day in the life.
Rita chose a French toast bagel. She also usually enjoys the savory rather than sweet bagels so another small pursuit here as well! Rita had a very big smile on her face, she was loving it—bagel as dessert!
And I decided upon a whole grain bagel. I never go for healthy bagels, because if you are already committed to carb loading (AND cream cheese), does whole grain really make that much of a difference? My answer is no. I did not really like the whole grain bagel, and from now on, will stick to my old favorite: the everything bagel! Why not have it all, that’s my philosophy.
This small adventure made us laugh. Lesson learned here, on any ordinary day, just change it up. Try something new, something just a little bit different—even more fun with friends, and the day becomes just a little less ordinary. A small pursuit of happiness!
Now I’m hungry and want a 🥯. Hmm…. which one to try??
