Rediscovering Dancing

How many of you remember going out dancing when you were in your late teens, early twenties?  Back in my day, the drinking age was 18 so we could easily get into the clubs and listen to the bands.  I remember those days with fond memories.  We were carefree and had a lot of fun!  We were rocking to the Beatles, Creedence, Grand Funk, etc., all the great groups from our Boomer era!

Fast forward 40 years and here I am rediscovering the fun, carefree days of my youth.  I have joined a couple of Boomer social groups that are free spirited like me!  We go to these venues that have these amazing bands that play music from our decades.  When I get onto the dance floor, I feel 20 again!  It has been so much fun!

I do eat right and exercise just about every day, so my energy levels are higher.  I have had people comment to me that I am a “party girl”.  I tell them no, I just love to dance!  Dancing is so freeing to me.  I love my 60’s and 70’s music and I feel the urge to go out on the dance floor and “let loose”.  I cannot tell you how refreshing that is!  There are some great bands in the Richmond area made up of fellow Baby Boomers rocking it out to the music we loved.

I had forgotten because I hadn’t gone dancing in so many years.  My past relationships were not into dancing, so we never went out to places that had dancing.  Now that I am single again, I am rediscovering me and things I love to do—like dancing!

What are some things that make you feel alive?

Marie Giammarco is a mid generation Boomer who came of age in suburban New York, 50 miles north of the city. A child whose mom and grandparents were Italian immigrants, her close knit family defined her growing up years. The product of an environment that revolved around food, health, and physical activity, she saw many elderly people age before their time because they lacked these things. She has a passion to help Boomers and Seniors to be active and live a longer, more healthy life.

  1. Great bands to dance to here in Richmond are River City Party Band and King of Swing (KOS). I’ll go with you. Maybe the others will go as well.
