52 Small Pursuits of Happiness in 2019: Week #2 — An Ice Cream Adventure

You all know I like my wine and foodie adventures. I think of myself as a connoisseur of ice cream, cupcakes and donuts as well, and when we travel my family and/or friends and I follow the sweets trail. We pondered, is there anything new and trendy going on in the world of ice cream? Yes! It turns out there is something new, at least new to us.

On a recent winters evening, Camille and I discovered rolled ice cream, which is apparently trending across the country.  We discovered a location very close to home — Cold Platform Rolled Ice Cream in Glen Allen, VA just outside of Richmond.

The process of rolling is quite a fascinating show, and an important part of the experience. If you access Cold Platform’s website, you will be able to see a video of the whole thing. The liquid is spread out thinly on a very cold (0 degree) slab, toppings are added, then the mixture is scraped presented in a cup filled with beautiful tight frozen rolls of ice cream. Extra toppings can then be added. You can create your own concoction, or choose one of the house favorites to be mixed into a chocolate or vanilla base. I got my all-time favorite, Rocky Road—I like chocolate and more chocolate, and chocolate sauce, and nuts. And whipped cream. Some of the other house favorites are Turtle, Mint Chip, Strawberry Shortcake, and Cookies and Cream. Yes, it is pretty…and yes, it is delicious! And Camille and I had a lot of fun trying something different on an otherwise gloomy day. So far, our Small Pursuits of Happiness are proving to be highly entertaining.

Next up: Adventure #3. Let’s try a new Happy Hour venue!

She was playing with Barbies while her older sisters marched on Washington and fought for equal rights, but watched and learned. Now she is an empty nester with a whole new future to explore and share at www.BoomerConnections.com! As “Philosopher in Chief” Cherie merely wants to change the world with this blog: to encourage those of us in the midst of our “second act” to look at life with new eyes, open to a life filled with new beginnings rather than endings, and to apply all we have learned to a way of living that is more meaningful and profound. There is SO much to live for, up until the very end.
